Sherwood Farm Home
Sherwood, Oregon
This extraordinary 2,800 square foot farmhouse is both regional-modernist, and quite simply agrarian in character. Set within the remnant stone foundation of an 1880-era barn, the design of the home is a simple shed form set within a hill. In this case, the view forms the home. The plan runs transverse to the axis to Mt. Hood, so that every room overlooks the 65-acre farm and the mountain rising above it all. Nearly the entire plan is open and expansive, with glass planes bringing in natural light everywhere. Yet, when you approach you scarcely realize you're approaching a home at all, until you crest the edge of the slope, and then arrive.
