Set on the western slope of Mt. Tabor, the Vedanta Society is a global spiritual community with headquarters and temples in many cities of the world. Their goals include achieving a global unifying effect through a bridging and inclusive perspective that results in lasting peace and
familyhood. This project in Portland adapts and expands the existing 5,200 sf spiritual and residential complex by adding an 1,800 sf, two story expandable shrine expansion for large gatherings showered with abundant natural light, a new library and book shop, a new 1,200 sf cafeteria, expanded commercial kitchen, four new monk’s quarters, a meditation room, new elevator systems, updated fire life safety systems, and a two level parking structure.
