When the community of yoga practitioners at Yoga Union decided to develop a new, expanded facility the community held a vote to choose communitecture as their architect. We were soon well underway, designing the adaptive reuse and expansion of a site in SE Portland that featured existing buildings. The new design included a rich program of yoga spaces, health and wellness spaces, admin offices and gathering spaces, a café area for the most healthful food and elixirs, a sculptural welcoming and retail area, a grand circular entrance plaza, a welcoming entry area, a roof deck, and lovely changing areas with showers. The schematic design was approved and adopted for proceeding to Design Development, Construction Documents, on to completion.
