Buckholdt Art Studio
SW Portland, Oregon | 2013
This 1,000 square foot art studio is nestled into a beautifully naturescaped property in Southwest Portland. Located at a busy intersection, the studio seeks to visually shield the residence and yard from the traffic, while opening up toward the residence and yard, creating a potential for future outdoor art workshops in this private clearing. This high-performance building is incredibly well-insulated, utilizing advanced framing techniques, a double-stud wall, and a living roof, contributing to low-energy comfort year-round. As an art studio, the interior was very roughly finished out, and includes a double-layer of plywood flooring, allowing any art-project-related damage to replace the top layer without affecting the building envelope seal.
