This international competition entry won first place in all ten categories of judging.  As a new central focus for the Redwood Community College campus, this new gathering place aimed to be a place to bring people together for informal daily use and programmed events.  It had to relate to the modernist vocabulary of the existing campus while also reflecting the spectacular landforms of Zion National Park.  The design is a giant solar needle spiraling up and out of the intersecting crossroads, ascending upwards into the point of the musical spire that would sound each hour.
