Multifamily Adaptive Reuse
Inner NE Portland, Oregon | 2021

Picture
This 34 unit village-scale multi-family project features numerous kinds of community space, including a common house, shared outdoor spaces which will invite socializing and play, and garden spaces.

The site plan includes four different multi-family buildings. Two are new, and two more are adapted and expanded existing buildings. The building types are somewhat different, so appropriate codes are being used to guide each design. Most units feature two bedrooms and, per "shared living" trends in our region that support multiple adults living together, each bedroom is associated with it's own bathroom. To support affordability and increased urban density, the unit designs are compact and efficient. To promote more community interaction and outdoor activity, the usual access infrastructure is expanded so that walkways work more like decks, with enough space for people to gather while others can pass by. To incentivize more multi-modal transit use, on-site parking opportunities are limited to just over half of the units, while bike parking opportunities are plentiful. There will also be a dog run commons with a washing station.
