Errol Heights Strawbale Home
Portland, Oregon | 2020
In another "first" for our design firm, this natural building project is the first-ever "Prescriptive Code" load bearing straw bale home designed and built in the Portland area, and perhaps even in the whole of Oregon. This means that the bale wall system entirely supports the roof, and seismic forces are handled by the applied lime plaster systems. At a modest 1,200 square feet, It is a super efficient, non-toxic, two bedroom model of simplicity. The design also incorporates numerous modern features including the Open Plan, which ensures kitchen activities are not compartmentalized. There are clerestories for natural light, many sculptural features using natural and reclaimed materials, as well as many high efficiency appliances and systems.
Though nestled within the fabric of SE Portland, the uninterrupted views over the treetops to the distant horizon are unbelievable.
